“About The Choir"
The Oxon Hill Vocal Music Department consists of five groups; Concert Choir, Advanced Ensemble, Male Chorus, Women's Chorus and Gospel Choir. There are approximately 130 voices that make up these choirs. The choirs have performed all over Prince Georges County and the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. The choir has been featured in the Prince Gegorges County Journal, The Washington Post, and The Washington Afro-American Newspaper. They have performed live on Oldies 100 Radio station, FOX-5 News and WUSA-9 News.
The Oxon Hill Vocal Music Department has travelled as far north as Toronto, Canada to compete in the Adjudication of Bands and Choral Festival, and was rated #1 in the nation. Other travels have included: Orlando, Florida (Dec, 1998, 2001 and 2003) for the Walt Disney Candle Light Processional; New York City( April, 1999); Nassau, Bahamas ( April 2000, March 2005); Los Angeles, CA ( April 2001);Atlanta, GA( March 2002); Key West, Florida and Cozumel, Mexico ( April, 2003); and New Orleans , LA ( April, 2004). In April, 2006, the choir participated in the International Choral Festival (Key West Florida, Cozumel Mexico, and Belize City, Belize) and returned home with 6 superior rating trophies and the grand championship trophy. In April, 2007, the choir traveled to Philadelphia, PA to participate in the choral festival and received all superior ratings and the grand championship trophy. Also in 2007, the choir made history by singing at the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on the National Mall.
